Puskas legacy

The Supreme Court (TS) has ruled on a striking case concerning the fraudulent management of a bank account linked to the so-called "Puskas legacy". It all started when, following the opening of an account in the name of the famous footballer's wife and with his daughter as an authorized person, the accused took advantage of their absence —and later their deaths— to appropriate the money. To achieve this, according to the TS, he forged contracts and simulated signatures with the help of the bank branch manager, managing to withdraw almost the entire balance, which he transferred to his own account. This action was classified as both continued scam

and document forgery, crimes for which both the accused and the manager were convicted. The court also ordered that the money be returned to the heirs (dormant inheritance) of the account holder, and imposed additional financial liability on the bank and its insurer. The defendants tried to avoid the conviction by appealing to the TS, arguing that there was not enough evidence

and that the process had taken too long. The TS, however, was clear, there was indeed solid evidence and a real simulation was carried out to steal the money. However, it acknowledged that the proceedings were extraordinarily lengthy —over ten years— and reduced the sentence to less than two years in prison. But, be warned, the TS ruled that, if the convicted individual wants to avoid imprisonment

and have their sentence suspended, they must first return all the stolen money. If they fail to do so, they will have to go to jail.
